The acquittal of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla’s on his plunder charges will “give a big boost” to his senatorial comeback bid in the 2019 elections, said former Leyte 1st district congressman Martin Romualdez.

Romualdez, president of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), Revilla’s political party, said that he is grateful that Revilla was acquitted after a “very stressful” trial.

“I am really grateful that Senator Bong, our party chairman, was acquitted after a very stressful trial,” Romualdez said in a statement.

“This good decision will give a big boost to his senatorial bid,” he added.

Romualdez said that the anti-graft First Division’s “not guilty” verdict is a “timely justice” to Revilla who he claimed is a victim of political persecution.

“His acquittal only validates and proves that the plunder case against him is politically motivated. Sadly, the plunder case took away more than four years of his life,” he said.

The Lakas CMD president said that his party hopes for Revilla’s victory in the 2019 midterm polls as he is “one of the most qualified” candidates aspiring for a Senate seat. /muf
