2 dead, 6 rescued from landslide that hit 3 Public Works buildings in Mt. Province

TWO people died while six others were rescued in the landslide that hit a village in Mt. Province, a spokesperson for the Mt. Province government said on Wednesday.

Novy Afidchao, public information officer, said in a live interview on GMANews TV, that the unidentified victims were recovered and rescued in one of three buildings of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that was buried by the landslide on Tuesday.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said in a post on Facebook that 31 people were trapped, of whom 20 were laborers, one a project engineer, up to three security guards and seven evacuees from nearby houses who sought shelter as typhoon “Rosita” slammed the province on Tuesday.

The landslide in Barangay Banawel happened between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., the PDRRMO said.

The Mt. Province was one of the areas hard-hit by Rosita whose strong winds uprooted trees, toppled electric posts and tore off roofs from houses and business establishments.
