Palace pays tribute to music ‘legend’ Rico J. Puno
MALACAÑANG paid tribute to the late singer Rico J. Puno as one of the legends in the music industry.
Puno, an incumbent councilor of Makati City, died of heart failure on Tuesday at the age of 65.
In a press conference, Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo offered condolences to the family of Puno, whom he calls his “personal friend.”
“We express our condolences to a legend that is Rico J. Puno. He has contributed a lot to the music industry,” Panelo told reporters.
“Personally I feel sad. We had a duet I think must be four years ago in my show. He is a personal friend,” he said.
Puno’s daughter, Tosca, said her father died 1:56 a.m. at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City Taguig due to heart failure.
Born Enrico de Jesus Puno, the music icon rose to fame in the ‘70s with hits like “May Bukas Pa,” “Kapalaran,” “Lupa,” “Macho Gwapito,” “Sorry Na Pwede Ba” and others.
The veteran singer had two major heart operations in the last three years. He underwent open heart surgery in 2015 and had placement of pacemaker this year.
Aside from the music scene, Puno also delved into acting and politics. He was seeking reelection as Makati City councilor in the 2019 mid-term polls. CATHERINE VALENTE
