Powerful typhoon barrels toward Luzon
Typhoon “Yutu” maintained its strength as it neared the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It is expected to enter the country on Saturday, the weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the typhoon was last spotted 2,380 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 210 kilometers per hour (kph), and gusts up to 260 kph. It was moving west northwest at 20 kph.
Once it enters PAR, the typhoon will be named “Rosita.”
Pagasa said a tropical cyclone warning signal may be raised over areas in Isabela and Cagayan as the typhoon might follow the track of typhoon “Ompong” that devastated Northern Luzon last month.
