Sen Binay seeks another 6-year term, confirms sibling feud
REELECTIONIST Senator Maria Lourdes Nancy Binay filed her certificate of candidacy (CoC) before the Commission Elections (Comelec) on Friday as official candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Binay, accompanied by her brother, former Makati Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay and lawyer Sixto Brillantes, is the second official candidate of UNA after lawyer Danilo Roleda, UNA’s secretary-general, who filed his CoC on the first day of filing on Thursday.
“We still have a lot of programs that we wanted implemented that is why I’m seeking another six-year term,” the senator said.
At the same time, Binay confirmed the sibling feud between her brother Junjun and sister, incumbent Makati Mayor Abigael “Abby” Binay-Campos, who were both seeking the mayoralty post.
Binay said, however, that the family was not closing any doors yet, confident that the matter would be threshed out in a scheduled meeting on Saturday when former vice president Jejomar Binay and former Makati mayor Elenita Binay arrived from a trip abroad.
The senator admitted though that she was closer to Junjun than Abby simply because she and her brother have lived under the same roof before. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
