PNP downplays communist infiltration of universities as ‘common knowledge’
THE universities allegedly infiltrated by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) may be news to the public but for the Philippine National Police (PNP), it is “common knowledge.”
PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde told reporters on Friday that they were monitoring the 18 universities listed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as schools where the CPP has been recruiting members for the alleged “Red October” ouster plot.
The following universities were mentioned by the AFP: University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, UP-Manila, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, Adamson University, Far Eastern University, University of the East-Recto, UE-Caloocan, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, San Beda University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, University of Makati, University of Caloocan City, University of Manila and Philippine Normal University.
“It was just published but this was common knowledge already [among us]. We have been monitoring these schools before and we have been coordinating with authorities about this,” he said.
Albayalde said now would be the right time to publish the list in order for them to do an intervention.
He also said the new information on the list was about the CPP’s efforts in inciting students to join them.
The right way to counter this is to coordinate with the officials of these universities and help them in straightening facts about the Duterte administration.
“Inciting takes time and you cannot do it overnight. It’s more on education. The problem with the youth today is they are very emotional and maybe they are getting wrong information from the teachings of their professors and we need to straighten it out,” Albayalde said.
The PNP and AFP will coordinate with officials of universities mentioned in the list and offer help on how they will combat the infiltration.
Some of the universities on the list denied that their students were being recruited and criticized AFP for not coordinating with them first before releasing the list.
Students in these universities also slammed the AFP for red-tagging them and for causing a threat to their lives. ROY NARRA
