‘Ompong’ disables 14 electric cooperatives
FOURTEEN electric cooperatives in the Philippines have minimal to no power supply following the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong (international name: Mangkhut), the National Electrification Administration (NEA) said on Monday.
The affected power co-ops include Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Isabela I Electric Cooperative, Inc.; La Union Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Cagayan 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Cagayan II Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Isabela I Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Isabela I Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Nueva Vizcaya Electric Cooperative, Inc; Benguet Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Mountain Province Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Abra Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Kalinga Apayao Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Ifugao Electric Cooperative, Inc.; and Aurora Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Eric Villar, acting department manager of the NEA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office, said the earliest restoration of electricity in areas not heavily affected by the typhoon will take about three to five days.
The initial estimated amount of damage sustained is P116.4 million, he added. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
