Pinoy tourists caught in Typhoon Mangkhut’s fury in HK

TWO Filipino tourists were hurt while 41 others were rescued as Typhoon Mangkhut battered Hong Kong, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday.

Consul General Antonio Morales reported to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano that the consulate on Sunday assisted 36 members of a Filipino tour group who were stranded in Hong Kong after the windshield of the bus that was to bring them to the airport was shattered by strong winds.
Morales said he sent another bus to the rescue and bring the group back to their hotel.

He added that an unidentified Filipina tourist had leg surgery after she was hit by flying debris. Another was also injured by flying debris.
Some household service workers also sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Hong Kong authorities also rushed to the aid of five Filipino workers at a dive resort.

All officers and staff of the Consulate General are safe and consular operations resumed on Monday, Morales said.
The consulate will continue to monitor the welfare of the 227,000 Filipinos in Hong Kong. BERNADETTE TAMAYO
