SolGen behind request for Trillanes amnesty form–Defense exec
THE Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) requested Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th’s amnesty application from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Department of National Defense (DND) said on Wednesday.
Patrick Rubin, the DND chief for internal audit service, said the OSG contacted the AFP deputy chief of staff for personnel (J1), which keeps the records for all personnel and officers.
“The AFP was directly contacted by the office that requested for the documents…it will be the best for the AFP to answer that,” Rubin told reporters in a news conference at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte issued a proclamation revoking the amnesty of Trillanes that former president Benigno Aquino 3rd granted in 2011.
The publication of the proclamation on the Classified Ads section of the Manila Times coincided with the Senate investigation into the alleged conflict of interest involving Solicitor General Jose Calida whose family-owned security firm forged contracts with several government agencies.
Rubin also said, however, that Trillanes himself could show documents before the military court proving his application of amnesty granted by the DND last January 2011.
Rubin said the secretariat of the ad hoc committee, which processed Trillanes’ amnesty application did not have records of the filing that was why it was up to the senator to prove it.
DND spokesman Arsenio Andolong said the alleged missing documents should not stop Trillanes from presenting his records.
“We are not jumping to any conclusions. Of course, we have to give them the benefit of the doubt so we leave it at that,” Andolong said in the same conference. DEMPSEY REYES
