Duterte revokes Trillanes amnesty

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte revoked the amnesty of Senator Antonio Trillanes 4th, Justice secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Tuesday.

A copy of Proclamation 572, signed by Duterte, was published in today’s issue of The Manila Times.

The proclamation voids proclamation 75 signed by Duterte’s predecessor, Benigno Aquino 3rd, which granted amnesty to Trillanes, who led the so-called Oakwood Mutiny and the Manila Peninsula siege against then-president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In the proclamation, Duterte said Trillanes, a known critic of the President, failed to comply with the minimum requirements to qualify for the amnesty proclamation.

Duterte, in the directive, ordered the Department of Justice and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to pursue all criminal and administrative cases against Trillanes.
