PSC ready to release incentives to Asiad medalists
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez said that they are ready to release the cash incentives to all medalists in the 18th Asian Games.
Ramirez said they are planning to give the rewards on September 12 in Malacanang depending on the availability of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The PSC chief has already made a request to the Office of the President.
“We are still awaiting the approval from Malacanang,” Ramirez told The Manila Times in a phone interview on Sunday.
Leading the list of awardees are gold medalists Hidilyn Diaz of weightlifting, Yuka Saso of golf, and skateboarder Margielyn Arda Didal as well as the women’s golf team of Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go.
Joining them in the program are silver medalists Rogen Ladon of boxing and Kiyomi Watanabe of judo, and bronze medalists Pagdanganan; Eumir Felix Marcial and Carlo Paalam (boxing); Almohaidib Abad, Jefferson Rhey Loon, Cherry Rose Regalado and Dines Dumaan (pencak silat); Jeordan Dominguez, Dustin Jacob Mella and Rodolfo Reyes (men’s poomsae team); Juvenile Faye Crisostomo, Rinna Babanto and Janna Dominique Oliva (women’s poomsae team); Pauline Lopez (sparring tae kwon do); Agatha Chrystenzen Wong and Divine Wally (wushu); Daniel Caluag (cycling); Meggie Ochoa (ju-jitsu); and Junna Tsukii (karatedo).
A gold medalist stands to receive a whopping P6 million while silver medalists get P2 million and bronze winners receive P950,000 – from the government and private sectors.
The government allots P2 million for gold, P1 million for silver and P400,000 for bronze based on the Republic Act 10699.
The Philippine Olympic Committee added P2 million (gold), P500,000 (silver) and P300,000 (bronze) as well as the Siklab Atleta Sports Foundation with P1 million (gold), P500,000 (silver) and P250,000 (bronze) for the winners.
Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Hoong will also give P1 million to all the gold medalists.
The Philippines bagged a total of 21 medals – four gold, two silvers and 15 bronzes – in the quadrennial meet.
It was the country’s best showing in 12 years since winning four gold, six silver and nine bronze medals in the 2006 Doha Games.
