DPWH starts Tripa de Gallina bridge repair

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) started to rebuild and strengthen one of 36 bridges in Metro Manila that was identified as old and weak and to make it safe and resilient, especially against earthquakes.

DPWH National Capital Region Director Melvin Navarro said on Friday that the two lanes of the four-lane Tripa de Gallina Bridge along Gil Puyat Ave. in Pasay City would be temporarily closed, advising motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Based on the inventory by the DPWH Bridge Management System (BMS), Tripa de Gallina Bridge would need to undergo urgent replacement with inevitable wear and tear after about 50 years of service as evidenced by the presence of cracks.

The DPWH allotted a total of P25 million to replace the southbound lanes of the bridge.

“Reconstruction has started on the inner two lanes of Tripa de Gallina Bridge hence remaining two outer lanes are open and passable for now. Once completed, we will work on the outer lanes,” said Navarro.

He also appealed for patience and understanding from the public as they limited the passable lanes for their crew to initiate “critical work” on the damaged bridge.

The target for the completion of the repair for the Tripa de Gallina Bridge is in April 2019. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
