Duterte to become first PH President to visit Jordan in September

President Rodrigo Duterte will meet with King Abdullah II during his official visit to Jordan from September 5 to 8, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday.

The DFA said Duterte’s visit to the Jordan, the first to be made by a Philippine President, “reaffirms and renews the Philippines’ ties with Jordan.”

“The President will hold talks with King Abdullah II on broadening cooperation in key areas to advance shared aspirations for greater peace, progress, and prosperity,” the statement read.

“The President is expected to discuss with His Majesty King Abdullah II a wide range of issues of mutual concern to the Philippines and Jordan,” it added.

Business leaders from both countries would meet “to explore ways of increasing two way trade and investments,” the DFA said.

The President will also meet with members of the Filipino community in the Arab State. The Philippine embassy in Jordan said there are around 28, 000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) there.

President Duterte earlier said Jordan would be giving two Cobra attack helicopters to the Philippines.
