Next stop for Diaz: Tokyo Olympics

IT isn’t game over for weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and three women golfers, headed by Yuka Saso, as they look forward to a bigger stage after their successful run at the 18th Asian Games last week in Jakarta, Indonesia where they bagged three golds.

Diaz made history when she won the country’s first Asiad gold medal in weightlifting last week while Saso topped the women’s individual golf event and then joined Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go to capture the gold in the team  competition.

“Marami po akong pangarap na business like coffee shop pero hindi ko magagawa itong mga ito need ko mag-prepare for 2020 Olympics,” said Diaz in a news conference at the lounge area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 where she proceeded upon her arrival via Philippine Airlines on Tuesday evening.

“Youth Olympics, not sure. But I will prepare for these tournaments and be ready for practice,” said Saso when asked about her plans.

The gold medalists were welcomed by Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez, Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas President Monico Puentevella and Special Assistant to the President Christpher “Bong” Go, among others.

They are each expected to receive P6 million as incentive for their performance in the games.  JOSEF RAMOS
