No information of Filipino casualties in Florida shooting — DFA
THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is monitoring the situation of the Filipino community in Jacksonville Landing, Florida, in the US following a shooting incident on Sunday that left three people dead and 11 others wounded.
At the same time, the DFA, through the Philippine embassy in Washington D.C. expressed its sympathies to the families of the victims.
In his report to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez said he has not received information of any Filipino casualties in the incident that took place at a video game tournament.
He added that authorities were still in the process of identifying the casualties.
Based on initial information obtained by the embassy, the gunman entered the bar and opened fire as the tournament was ongoing.
The gunman killed two and wounded 11 others before he killed himself. The motive behind the shooting was being investigated.
There are an estimated 13,700 members of the Filipino community in Florida’s 4th congressional district, which includes Jacksonville. JEFFERSON ANTIPORDA
