Carlos Anton wins tough Autocross round Five
Carlos Anton of Castrol-Yokohama team had to battle it out with his co-champion in the 2016 Asian Gymkhana Milo Rivera in the recent round of the Philippine Autocross Championship, with Anton claiming the win with a margin of just 0.13 second.
The duel between these two prolific race drivers was definitely one of the most exciting highlights in the recent fifth round of the autocross series held last weekend at Meycauayan, Bulacan. Both drivers had to run five classes to improve their times and this time Anton, who has won in different race disciplines, came out on top with 52.13 seconds against Rivera’s 52.26 seconds.
“It was really one of the toughest Autocross races so far,” said Carlos Anton after the event. “Milo was always up there challenging for the lead and in the end, we were blessed to finally get the best time! It will be exciting to see who wins this year’s Autocross Championship.”
Carlos’ 14-year old super son Iñigo took the third best time with 53.11 seconds in a Mark Young-Mohspeed Racing’s Honda Civic EF. The younger Anton continued his dominance in the Novice division by leading by more than six seconds over his closest rival and has made a clean sweep of the five rounds so far.
It was the older Anton’s second win overall against Rivera’s three victories. Rivera now leads the championship by six points ahead of Anton, or 44 points vs 38 points.
Meanwhile, the younger Anton’s fifth straight win for the Novice Crown in the Autocross Championship places him at third overall with 28 points. Last year’s champion Danby Yaptinchay is fourth overall with 25 points.
The Antons are backed by Castrol, Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, Mohspeed, MP Turbo, Special Stage, JSD Autosport, PartsPro, Carporn racing, Worksbell Japan, Kart Plaza, and Kilton.
The Philippine Autocross Championship has three more rounds to go.
