All in the family as former senator Bongbong Marcos defends sister on ‘moving on’

FORMER senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. on Friday agrees with his sister Imee who told her family’s critics to “move on” from Martial Law and other issues.

“I understand my sister kasi ang pinaguusapan ay 32 years ago. The government fell, kinasuhan kami. It’s done, ano pang gusto niyong gawin?” Marcos said in a forum in Quezon City.

(I understand my sister because the issue happened 32 years ago. The government fell, cases have been filed against us. It’s done, what else do you want to do?)

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said in a recent press conference that the conflict between her family and the Aquinos happened “a long time ago” and that there was no need “to keep hating for a very long time.”

The Ilocos Norte governor reiterated in her statement that people her age should also move on as “millennials have already moved on” from Martial Law during the commemoration of the 35th death anniversary of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on August 21.

Marcos’ statement drew criticisms from netizens who claimed that they have not moved on yet from the Martial Law.

Both Imee and Bongbong Marcos are children of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who was ousted during the People Power uprising over human rights abuses and allegations of corruption during his regime.

“The Philippines has been facing other issues. Why don’t we solve them first?” the former senator said, citing issues on the Philippines’ ongoing conflict with China and the West Philippine Sea, as well as peace talks with the communist rebels, to name a few. GLEE JALEA
