DFA asks for help in finding missing Filipina in Kuwait
THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday reiterated its appeal to the public for information that could help authorities find a Filipina worker in Kuwait who has been missing since February 2017.
The DFA sought the help of the public in finding Ronalyn Yonting Lawagan, a household service worker, who last contacted her family in February 2017 or a month after she was reported to have run away from her Kuwaiti employer.
The DFA said it only learned about Lawagan’s case in April 2018 after her disappearance was reported to the Philippine embassy by her recruiting agencies in Kuwait and in Manila.
Chargé d’Affaires Mohammad Nordin Pendosina Lomondot said the embassy requested the help of Kuwaiti authorities to locate Lawagan.
Lomondot said Kuwaiti authorities informed the embassy that Lawagan was still in Kuwait because they have no record that she has exited the country.
The embassy made an online appeal for information and also sent personnel to search for Lawagan in local prisons and hospitals but all these yielded negative results.
“We are requesting our kababayan who may know where Ronalyn is to immediately inform us so we can assist her,” Lomondot said in a statement.
The DFA said those who have information on the whereabouts of Lawagan may contact the Office of Public Diplomacy in Manila at +632-834-4483 and the Philippine embassy in Kuwait at +965-6500-2612.
