German teacher arrested for illegal recruitment of 4 PH students as caregivers
A German was arrested at the Clark International Airport in Angeles, Pampanga for “illegally” recruiting four Filipino women as caregivers, the Bureau of Immigration said on Wednesday.
The suspect, Herbert Joseph Vogt, 72, “attempted” to take the four Filipino women, all of which were his German language students, out of the country and into Germany, said Deputy Commissioner Marc Red Mariñas, Immigration officer-in-charge (OIC).
Mariñas added that the alleged victims “were made to lie about the circumstances of their travel.”
The OIC deputy commissioner said that the suspected victims of illegal recruitment confessed that Vogt helped them process their applications.
Vogt’s case was turned over to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The suspect is also being held at the NBI detention center until illegal recruitment and human trafficking charges are filed against him before a court.
The Filipino women are in the custody of the Department of Justice’s Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking “for assistance and further investigation.” CATHERINE MODESTO
