Two typhoons outside PAR enhancing ‘habagat’—Pagasa
TWO typhoons outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) are triggering the southwest monsoon or “habagat” over western Luzon, the state-run weather bureau said on Wednesday.
As of 7 a.m., typhoon “Cimaron” was 2,000 kilometers (km) east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, according to weather specialist Gener Quitlong of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
It packs winds of 145 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 180 kph as it moves northwest at 25 kph.
Typhoon “Soulik” was 1,245 km north-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with winds of 160 kph and gusts of 190 kph. It is moving northwest at 25 kph.
Although both typhoons are unlikely to enter PAR due to their direction, they will enhance monsoon rains, which will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Batanes, and Babuyan Group of Islands.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Pagasa is also monitoring a weather disturbance above the country, which will likely turn into a low pressure area (LPA) in the next few days.
“We are seeing a circulation which may turn into an LPA soon, but we will continue monitoring for updates,” Quitlong said.
