2 soldiers killed in Albay town

LEGAZPI CITY — Two soldiers were killed in an ambush staged by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Camalig town, Albay on Tuesday afternoon.

Capt. Joash Pramis, chief of Public Affairs of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, identified the fatalities as Private First Class Cris Aron Consolation and Pfc. Emmanuel Clarinal, both members of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Battalion.

Pramis said the two soldiers were on board a motorcycle on their way to Barangay Panoypoy when a group of rebels shot them, killing them both instantly at around 4:45 p.m.

Army troopers have set up checkpoints in areas believed to be used as an escape route by fleeing rebels. /ee
