LUCENA CITY, Quezon: Two people died while seven others were wounded in a road accident on Thursday in Quezon.
Police identified the fatalities as Luisito Sarte, a resident of Pasacao, Camarines Sur, who died on the spot; and Segundina Llamado of Barangay Sta. Rosa del Sur, also in Pasacao who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nuestra Señora delos Angeles General Hospital in Atimonan.
Injured were Lizza Llamado, 30; Celebrada Montayas; Joseline Bengua, 40; Salvacion Pasagi, 58; Menilla Llovido, 55; Cara Alcibor, 29; and Victoria Delos Santos, 58, all residents of Camarines Sur. They were also brought to the Nuestra Señora delos Angeles General Hospital.
They were scheduled for transfer to another hospital in Lucena City.
Police said they received a call at about 11:40 p.m. on Thursday about the accident involving a passenger jeepney (PYL-227) driven by Edwin Martinez, a resident of Barangay Buhangin of Atimonan town, and a Nissan Urvan, with plate number VBV-332, driven by Sarte, in Barangay Balubad, Atimonan.
Police said the jeepney was traveling along Maharlika Hi-way bound for Bicol when it swerved towards the opposite lane to avoid the rear portion of an Isuzu mixer truck that was stalled on the highway because of a prior vehicular accident. This caused the jeepney to collide with the oncoming Nissan Urvan. BELLY OTORDOZ
