Dole Philippines ordered to regularize over 9,000 workers
THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ordered the Philippine branch of the producer and marketer of packaged food to regularize more than 9,000 workers following findings that the firm and its contractors were engaged in the illegal labor practice of contractualization.
Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello 3rd issued the order to Dole Philippines, Inc., affirming an earlier ruling of the DOLE Regional Office 12 in South Cotabato, declaring the company to be engaged in labor-only contracting arrangements and its service providers as labor-only contractors.
Dole Philippnes is on the list of the top 20 companies that were found to be engaged in illegal labor-only contracting. It is ranked second, next only to Jollibee Food Corp. with 14,960 contractual employees that needed to be regularized.
In a resolution, the company was told to provide regular status to a total of 9,256 affected workers from its service providers, namely Tibud sa Katibawasan Multi-Purpose Cooperative with 2,270 workers; Polomolok Manpower Services Cooperative (PMSC), 1,583; Cannery Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CAMPCO); 3,131; and Unified Engineering Multi-Purpose Cooperative, 1,364.
