Severe storm seen outside PH, monsoon rains to persist—Pagasa
TROPICAL storm “Soulik” outside Philippine territory has intensified into a severe tropical storm, although rains in tge country will continue because of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” the state-run weather bureau said on Friday.
As of 7 a.m., Soulik was located 2,060 kilometers (km) east of extreme Northern Luzon with winds of 90 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 115 kph.
It is moving north at 30 kph and is unlikely to hit the country due to its direction, said senior weather specialist Meno Mendoza of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Cavite and Batangas.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
