American fugitive accused of sexual abuse nabbed in Quezon City, faces deportation to US
AN American national who is on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) “wanted list” for allegedly committing sexual abuse in Western Texas was arrested, and would be deported to the United States, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday.
The “fugitive” was identified as Stacey Thomas, 49. He was arrested last Friday in his residence at the Bagong Buwan Teresa Heights in Fairview, Quezon City upon the request of the US Embassy in Manila for him to be deported so that he could face a trial he was accused of escaping from about eight years ago.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement that a US District Court in Western Texas issued a warrant of arrest to Thomas for “abusive sexual contact.”
Morente added that Thomas has been on the FBI wanted list since July 2010 when the court issued him an arrest warrant and then flew to the Philippines a month after that.
Thomas is currently being held at the BI Detention Facility in Taguig while waiting to be sent back to the US, said the bureau. CATHERINE MODESTO
