Pagasa raises red rainfall alert; warns of intense flooding

The state weather bureau raised the red warning level in Metro Manila and Rizal Saturday afternoon due to intense rainfall and threats of severe flooding.

In its 2 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Karding,” now outside of the Philippine area of responsibility, could trigger heavy downpour.

Yellow warning level was raised in Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Northern Quezon, which means flooding could also occur in low lying areas.

Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains could also affect Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas and the rest of Quezon in the next three hours, Pagasa warned. /jpv
