Two low pressure areas may turn into tropical depressions—Pagasa

Two low pressure areas (LPAs) are being monitored, which could both turn into tropical depressions within the week.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday said one LPA was 1,245 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.

“This LPA may turn into a tropical depression within 12 to 48 hours and can be locally named ‘Carding,’” said weather specialist Shelly Ignacio.

Another LPA, 550 km west of Subic, Zambales, may also turn into a tropical depression.

“We will continuously monitor the behavior of the two weather disturbances for further updates,” Ignacio said.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, Mindoro provinces, and Western Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

The southwest monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Bicol region, Mindanao, the rest of Calabarzon and Mimaropa, of Central Luzon, and of Visayas.

Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon make up Calabarzon while Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan make up Mimaropa.

The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said. GLEE JALEA
