New Ombudsman Martires takes oath
NEWLY installed Ombudsman Samuel Martires took his oath before Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio at the Supreme Court on Monday.
Martires was allowed by the high court en banc to avail of early retirement so that he could assume his new post.
Martires was supposed to retire in January upon reaching the mandatory age of retirement at 70.
Martires vowed to weed out corruption as Ombudsman.
Martires said in a recent interview that the Office of the Ombudsman has about 9,000 cases every year.
“Yes, that is one of my priorities and when I assume office I would make the necessary announcement on what has to be done. I cannot say now because it would be unfair to the officers and employees of the OMB if through the media they just learned na ito yung aking gusto. I will have a meeting with them on Wednesday when I officially assume office, and tell them what I like,” he told reporters in that interview.
