Raps filed vs. four cops allegedly extorting from Valenzuela junk shops

A criminal complaint has been filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against four police officers involved in extortion activities in junk shops in Valenzuela City.

Facing a complaint for violation of Article 294 of the Revised Penal Code or Robbery/Extortion are Senior Inspector Adonis Paul Gonzales Escamillan, commander of Police Community Precinct 8 of Valenzuela City, and his subordinates SPO4 Serafin Sarapdon Adante, PO1 Ryan Paul Estapia Antimaro, PO1 Rey Harvey Azadon Florano, along with civilian Amado Baldong Jr.

The complaint was filed on Wednesday when the police officers were subjected to inquest proceedings following their arrests. An inquest proceeding is conducted if the suspects are arrested without a warrant.

Also included in the complaint is PCP 8 Commander Police Sr. Inspector Adonis Paul Escamillan, who is now subject of a manhunt operation.

Police operatives arrested Adante, Antimaro, Florano and Baldon Jr. in an entrapment operation along Mindanao Ave. in Barangay Ugong at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The operation stemmed from reports that the accused police personnel were involved in extorting P200-P500 daily from junk shop owners in the area.

Recovered from the operation were marked money worth P200 and several other bills in different denominations.

The police officers are already relieved of their duties.  /vvp
