Owner of white van in Basilan attack identified — police, military
THE owner of the white van that was used in a bomb attack in Basilan has been identified, military and police authorities said on Thursday.
Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, regional director of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), told The Manila Times that a former village chief in the town of Hadji Mohammad Ajul owned the van that carried the improvised explosive device (IED) that killed 11 people, including its still unidentified driver, in Lamitan City on Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, confirmed the information although refused to name the former local official.
“We have an identity now…[The van] was already passed and sold numerous times. That is what out investigation reported,” Mijares said.
Besana maintained that the explosion was not a suicide bombing.
The ARMM is currently on heightened alert. ROY NARRA, DEMPSEY REYES
