Albayalde sacks 3 Taguig policemen in kidnap-for-ransom case

THE three Taguig City policemen who were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a couple on Tuesday were dismissed from the service, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde on Wednesday.

Albayalde presented to media PO1 Bryan Amir Barjoof, PO1 Paolo Ocampo, and PO2 Joey Maru at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, a day after the three were arrested in an entrapment operation that turned into a shootout, which resulted in the death of a policeman who was also an accomplice.

He reprimanded the three for kidnapping Ronielyn Caraecele and her boyfriend Samuel in their residence in Taguig.

“Did you study what you did in your four years of studying criminology? Were you not contented with the salary hike you received this year?” Albayalde asked the three in Filipino.

He said that the three would be not reassigned but would dismissed because it would be “useless if we assign them somewhere in one to two months, then we will just dismiss them.”

Policemen who are relieved from their posts are usually reassigned to other stations while their cases were being subjected to summary hearings.

Albayalde said that in the name of “due process,” the PNP would hold two months of summary hearings just to prove that the three arrested policemen should be dismissed.

“We have strong pieces of evidence since we have a video and other physical evidence…we need to give them due process in order for us not to be hit with technicalities, which can be an avenue for them to file a motion for reconsideration and bring them back to the mainstream [police force],” he said.

Albayalde also said that the recent arrest of policemen involved in crimes was a good indication that the PNP’s intensified internal cleansing was working.

He also said that it showed that the public was no longer scared of reporting anomalies involving police scalawags.

PO1 Gererdo Ancheta, who was also a member of the kidnap-for-ransom group, was killed in the shootout.
