Woman nabbed for smuggling drugs into Taguig jail

A woman who tried to smuggle illegal drugs into a detention facility in Taguig was arrested on Monday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Wednesday.

BI Warden Facility Chief Edward Mabborang identified the woman as Melody Brosas Almoete, 27. Authorities seized 10 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) from her.

Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group foiled Almoete’s plan on Tuesday, July 31.

“Her modus operandi is to hide the shabu in her private parts to avoid being caught during immigration inspection,” Mabborang said in a statement.

He said they suspected illegal drug activities after they found drug paraphernalia inside the detention facility.

“We conducted surveillance and monitored the activities of the visitors, and caught her when she attempted to take out the drugs in the restroom,” he added.

The BI detention center serves as a temporary holding area for foreign nationals waiting for deportation. /ee
