‘Rogue’ policeman killed, 3 others nabbed in shootout in Taguig
A POLICEMAN in Taguig City was killed while three others were arrested for alleged kidnapping following an entrapment operation on Tuesday.
A report from the Southern Police District said PO1 Gererdo Ancheta died in the shootout at 3:30 a.m. in Western Bicutan.
Arrested were PO1 Bryan Amir Bajoof, PO1 Paolo Ocampo, and PO2 Joey Maru.
Initial reports said that the four policemen, all assigned at the Taguig City Police Station, were part of a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate.
They kidnapped Ronielyn Caraecele and her boyfriend Samuel in their residence at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday and robbed the couple of P7,000 in cash, two gold watches, and expensive wallets.
The rogue policemen then demanded P50,000 in exchange for their freedom, according to the report.
The couple initially gave P20,000, which led to Ronielyn being freed but the policemen kept Samuel under their custody as insurance that Ronielyn would return for the balance of P30,000.
Authorities seized two firearms with magazines, two extra firearms with magazines, P10,600 in cash, one gold watch, three mobile phones, an illegal drug paraphernalia, and two sachets of shabu recovered from Ancheta’s body.
The three erring policemen are currently in the custody of Taguig City police. They will face charges for robbery-holdup and kidnap for ransom.
