JV Ejercito: Senators will push anti-dynasty law if people will support it

Many senators will push for the passage of an anti-dynasty law if people will support it, Senator JV Ejercito said Thursday.

While he doesn’t have the numbers yet, Ejercito said he expects more senators to favor the Senate Bill No. 1765 or the Anti-Political Dynasty Act of 2018 if a survey would show that people support it.

“Senators are very sensitive when it comes to survey pulses. If the anti-dynasty law will be supported by the majority, I think more senators will support it,” he said in Filipino.

Despite being a member of a prominent political family, Ejercito said he supports the measure, which is now pending at the Senate, to give the people a chance to serve the country.

“Anti-political dynasty is giving opportunity, equal opportunity to everyone who wants to serve,” he said.

The senator added that it is unfair for families to take control of local government units, which would make people think that the government is run like a public corporation.

“We can’t monopolize power. We need to give equal opportunity to everyone by pushing anti-dynasty,” he said. /ee
