Customs seize P55-M worth of fake products at Manila warehouse
THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized fake products worth P55 million at a warehouse in Tondo, Manila, according to a report on Wednesday.
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said there were about 120 cartons of fake cigarettes, three DVD replicating machines, 300 boxes of blank DVD and cellphone chargers inside the warehouse along Antonio Rivera Street.
Lapeña added that a brand owner gave them the tip two weeks ago.
The warehouse owners were identified as Sonny Kho and Tito Yao.
A man named Reggy Tan, identified as the warehouse administrator, was inside when the operation was conducted.
The BOC said the three DVD replicating machines were worth about P45 million pesos while the other confiscated products cost about P10 million.
Yogi Filemon Ruiz, BOC Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) director, said the cigarettes found in the warehouse were fake versions of Fortune, Jackpot, More, Marlboro, Two Moon, and Belmont.
The confiscated products will undergo seizure and forfeiture proceedings in violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, and other pertinent provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA). JEAN NICOLE R. STA. CLARA
