Marikina declares state of calamity
THE Marikina government declared a state of calamity on Sunday because of the pending and anticipated effects of the storm-induced rains this week on the city.
In a post on Facebook, the Marikina Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) said the declaration at 5:30 p.m. stemmed from:
1. trying to prevent the hoarding of basic commodities and to make them available to everyone.
2. being able to give those who are working the opportunity to file a calamity loan to the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), and Pag-Ibig.
3. making relief and rehabilitation efforts easier.
As of 6 p.m., the Marikina River water level subsided to 15.6 meters, prompting authorities to lower the alarm to first.
As of posting time, 4,891 residents were evacuated in various evacuation centers:
129 at the Tanong Elementary School; 12 at the Leo De Gario Victorino Elementary School; 1,654 at the Malanday Elementary School; 192 at the Marikina Elementary School; 900 at the Bulelak Covered Court; 414 at the Concepcion Integrated High School; 1,418 at the H. Bautista Elementary School; and 172 at the Nangka Elementary School.
No floods were reported. ATHENA LUCASAN
