2 dead from heavy rains; 8 areas under state of calamity—NDRRMC

TWO persons died from the heavy rains induced by tropical storms “Henry” and “Inday” as eight areas were put under a state of calamity, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The fatalities were identified as Luisa Pelew, 54, who died from a landslide in Bontoc, Mt. Province; and Angelito Jipulan, 43, who drowned in a river at Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Under a state of calamity, according to an NDRRMC report, were: Dagupan, Pangasinan; Paombong, Bulacan; Naic and Ternate, Cavite; Asipulo, Lagawe and Lamut in Ifugao.

The NDRRMC also listed one missing in Cainta, Rizal identified as Brix Boticario, 17, and one injured in Bontoc, Mt. Province identified as Frauline Magwa.

The NDRRMC said Pelew and Magwa were on board a van at the boundary of Barangay (village) Bontoc Ili and Guina-ang when a landslide hit.

The Office of Civil Defense at the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) said Magwa confined at Bontoc District Hospital.

Jipulan was carried away by a strong current last Sunday while crossing a river at the villages of Naghasa and Villejas in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, the NDRRMC said.

The NDRRMC said the body was retrieved last Monday in the vicinity of Sitio Mabente, Poblacion village in Guihulngan City.

Boticario went missing after he jumped from the bridge of Bronco creek during a heavy rainfall in the vicinity of Cainta, Rizal. Authorities are conducting search and rescue operations. DEMPSEY REYES
