Residents near Marikina River evacuate as water level rises anew
THE Marikina River water level rose to 17.4 meters on Sunday becayse if heavy rains spawed by Typhoon “Josie”, prompting local authorities to raise the second alarm.
As of posting time, 3,343 individuals and 743 families are seeking shelter in eight evacuation centers. There are 69 individuals and 19 families at the Tanong Elementary School; 32 individuals and 11 families at the St. Victorina Elementary School; 1,036 individuals and 226 families at the Malanday Elementary School; 107 individuals and 23 families at the Bulelak Gym; 804 individuals and 182 families at the PIS; 451 individuals and 100 families at the H. Bautista Elementary School; and 161 individuals and 41 families at the Nangka Elementary School.
According to the Marikina Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), the evacuees started arriving at 6 a.m.
Floods were reported along Bayabas Street, Barangay Nangka, Marcos Highway Service Road, Talisay Street, Narra Street, Dona Petra Compound, and Kamias Road.
Teams from the MDRRMO are continously being deployed to assist the evacuees. ATHENA LUCASAN
