Communist insurgents reject ‘localized peace talks’ anew

THE National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) on Tuesday is firm in rejecting the government’s proposal to localize peace talks, saying it will only isolate Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison and was a “divide and rule” tactic of the Duterte administration.

In a statement, the NDFP also lashed out at Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana for being “delusional,” thinking that the localized peace talks would be “the key to defeating the armed revolutionary movement.”

“Localized talks are a classic divide and rule tactic. The idea is to hoodwink local CPP leaders and NPA (New People’s Army) commanders into agreeing to local ceasefire agreements and later on, induce them to surrender,” it said.

“Localized peace talks are also a vain attempt to isolate NDFP chief political consultant Jose Ma. Sison from the mass of revolutionaries, because of the crucial role he plays in the GRP (Government of the Republic of the Philippines)-NDFP,” the NDFP added.

It was Lorenzana and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who floated the idea of localized peace talks as an alternative to the stalled negotiations in the national level. DEMPSEY REYES
