Police officer killed in buy-bust in Nueva Ecija
A POLICE officer was killed in a buy-bust operation in Gen. Tiñio, Nueva Ecija on Monday night, according to a spot report.
A suspect identified only as “Abet” shot PO1 Mariano Emmanuel Caparas during an exchange of fire following a buy-bust operation in Barangay Pias at 9:45 p.m.
Caparas was rushed to the Medicare Community Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities recovered one pistol, 10 caliber 9-mm spent shells, a fired bullet, black Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle, and one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected “shabu. ”
The Philippine National Police (PNP) extended their condolences to the family of Caparas in a statement.
“The death of PO1 Caparas does not diminish our keen resolve to accomplish the mission against illegal drugs and crime, rather, his heroism inspires us [to continue]the fight with deeper commitment and dedication,” PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde said.
He assured Caparas’ family that it would receive benefits entitled to his legal dependents.
