MAJORITY of Filipinos are opposed to a shift to federalism, according to a recent Pulse Asia survey.
The survey on 1,800 respondents from June 15 to 21 said 62 percent were not in favor, 28 percent were in favor while 10 percent were uncertain.
At the same time, the survey said that 69 percent had “little to no knowledge” of the proposed federal form of government while 31 percent said they knew a “great deal to sufficient.”
When asked if the Constitution should be amended “now”, 67 percent said “no,” 18 percent said “yes,” while 14 percent said “they didn’t know or couldn’t say.”
The poll, which had a +/- 2 margin of error, was done two weeks before President Rodrigo Duterte’s consultative committee submitted the draft federal constitution to his office.
The proposal had not been made public during the survey period.
The shift to federalism is among President Duterte’s campaign promises during the 2016 resources.
