Trillanes security pullout part of ‘review’ of police core functions, says PNP spokesman
THE pullout of police security personnel of Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th was in line with a comprehensive review of all protective security men and in line with efforts in maximizing all human resources available, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.
“The PNP is conducting a comprehensive review of all protective security personnel its Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) provides to all qualified VIPs, including elected and appointed officials, as well as private individuals,” Sr. Supt. Benigno Durana, PNP spokesman, said in a statement.
Durana made the clarification after Trillanes revealed that the police leadership has stripped him of some of his security, which Malacañang defended.
“The move, which we started just recently, is in line with our efforts to maximize the use of available human resources intended primarily to perform our core police functions but also with due consideration to the specific needs of key officials and private individuals,” he said.
Durana also said that PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde directed the PSPG to temporarily provide Trillanes with two police security personnel pending the results of the review. DEMPSEY REYES
