Trough of LPA, southwest monsoon bring rains over parts of PH—Pagasa

THE trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” are bringing rains over Metro Manila and other parts of the country on Friday, the state-run weather bureau said.

As of 12 noon, the LPA was 715 kilometers (km) east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

It said in its advisory that heavy to intense rains with lightning and strong winds because of the trough of the LPA and the southwest monsoon were being experienced over Metro Manila, Zambales, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas which may persist within the next two hours.

Because of the local thunderstorms, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal and Quezon will experience the same conditions within the next two hours.

A gale warning was raised over Occidental Mindoro, Lubang Island, Palawan, and Calamian Group of islands.

Fishermen were advised not to fish and sail off the affected areas, Pagasa said. GLEE JALEA
