Get-away vehicle in killing of Cavite vice mayor recovered

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna — Cavite Police recovered the get-a-way vehicle believed to have been used in the killing of a local official and his driver in Cavite, an official said on Wednesday.

Sr. Supt. Wille Segun, Cavite provincial director, said a concerned citizen tipped off police about an abandoned black Toyota Hilux at the Mabagao-Pantihan Bridge, Barangay Tulay B, Magarondon at 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday.

The engine was still warm when residents found the vehicle, police said.

It has no plate number or conduction sticker.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) is processing the vehicle for any fingerprints and other pieces of evidence that could solve the killing of Trece Martirez Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan and his driver Romulo Guillemerint.

Meantime, the reward offered for the identification of the suspects was raised to P400,000.

Cavite Rep. Alex Advincula added another P200,000 to the money which Cavite 6th District Rep. Luis Ferrer offered.

Also, Kristine Lubigan Lucero, in a statement, asked for swift justice from the police.

Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, Calabarzon regional director, said investigators were looking into politics as the possible motive behind Lubigan’s killing.

Lubigan, who was serving his third term, would have announced his 2019 candidacy for mayor on Monday, relatives said during his wake. WITH A REPORT FROM FATIMA LAYSON
