A total of 137 farmers in Cebu province received their certificates of land ownership award (CLOAs) in a recent ceremony led by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Agrarian Reform Secretary John R. Castriciones told the farmers during the ceremony that their CLOAs signify their “freedom from the bondage of tenancy.”

“This is the day for us to be happy, because our farmer beneficiaries finally receive their CLOAs that they have been wanting for a long time,” he said in Filipino.

He also emphasized President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment to strengthen the government’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

The secretary also assured the farmers of the government’s continued support for them, calling them “the true heroes of the country.”

Castriciones said he was spearheading the housing program for farmers under the CARP.

According to the department, the housing program will be anchored on farmers’ capacity to pay within 30 years with an annual interest of 5 percent.

As of April 30, DAR-Cebu has distributed about 35,198 hectares of farmlands to 34,319 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).
