Palace condemns killing of Tanauan mayor
MALACANANG condemned the killing of Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili, vowing justice while extending its condolences to his family.
(We condemn the killing of Mayor Halili . . . to his family and constituents, let us give them justice. We will investigate and punish the people behind his death.)
Roque, however, did not comment on the mayor’s controversial “walk of shame” campaign where he paraded suspected criminals on the streets of Tanauan with signs on their necks.
Ironically, the mayor was listed among politicians linked to illegal drugs in 2017 and, as a result, was stripped of his police powers. MIGUEL PECONCILLO
