Wounded suspect in village councilor’s murder turns up in Davao del Norte hospital

DAVAO CITY – A murder charge has been readied on Thursday against a 36-year-old man suspected of killing a village official in Maco town, Compostela Valley on Tuesday, police said.

Bryan Genon, married, and a resident of Barangay Macambol, in Mati City, Davao Oriental, was found undergoing treatment at the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Tagum City after he was hit in the leg following a firefight with police moments after the attack on Omar Macusang, the newly elected village councilor of Pangi, Maco, according to Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, Southern Mindanao police spokesperson.

Driz said lawmen identified Genon as one of the motorcycle-riding assailants who shot it out with them during a pursuit operation against Macusang’s attackers.

Police hoped that the suspect’s arrest would help shed light on Macusang’s murder and the series of shooting incidents in Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental provinces. Frinston Lim/lb
