Don’t listen to his “talkkalese” or his opinion about religion.
Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday aired this appeal to the public after her father, President Duterte, came under fire for his harsh criticisms against the Church.
“Please do not listen to him interpret the Bible or Quran. He is not a priest, a pastor or an imam. He is the President. Listen only when he speaks about his work,” Carpio said in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
The Davao City mayor came out to defend the President on her Instagram and Facebook accounts, saying the public should take her father’s statements on governance seriously, but not his opinions on religion.
“Please do not listen to him interpret the Bible or Quran, he is not a priest, a pastor or an imam,” Carpio said in her posts that came with a photo of her and her father.
Instead, she urged people to “listen only when he speaks about his work and criticize him on his work and not on his ‘talkkalese’.”
“Do not waste your negative energy on his interpretation of the bible, that is his opinion. He is protected by the constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression even if he is President,” she stressed.
But Carpio agreed with her father’s spokespersons that he was “protected by the constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression even if he is President.”
