Military, police to craft ‘more elaborate’ measures to avoid misencounters — Armed Forces chief
THE military and police will craft “more elaborate” joint trainings and planning for all operations, Gen. Carlito Galvez, armed forces chief, said on Wednesday, two days after a misencounter resulted in the deaths of six lawmen.
“We already have such existing measures, but we will make it more elaborate,” Galvez said in an interview in Samar, after his closed-door meeting with officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP), led by its Director General Oscar Albayalde.
Galvez and Albayalde heard mass in Samar for the six policemen who were killed on Monday morning in a firefight at Sitio Lonoy, Barangay San Roque, Sta. Rita with Army soldiers who thought they were members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
Both Galvez and Albayalde said that there was a problem in the level of coordination between the military and police that led to the misencounter.
Galvez said that by elaborating on the existing measures, such incidents would be avoided in the future. DEMPSEY REYES
