2 police officials relieved over misencounter in Samar
PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde relieved two officials involved in the misencounter between soldiers and policemen that resulted in six deaths.
In an TV interview on Wednesday, Albayalde said that he ordered Chief Supt. Mariel Magaway of the Eastern Visayas Police Regional Office to temporarily relieve Supt. Glen Oliver Cinco, the group director of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8, and Chief Insp. Don Archie SuspeƱe, commanding officer of the 805th Coy Regional Mobile Force Battalion.
He said that more officials may be relieved following the incident in Sta. Rita, Samar on June 25 pending results of an investigation by the Board of Inquiry, which Albayalde formed.
“I ordered the regional director of [Police Regional Office]-8 to temporarily relieve the group director of the regional mobile group and also the company commander who led the troops in that operation, pending investigation,” Albayalde said.
The Eastern Visayas Police Regional Office, through a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG), and Samar Reps. Edgar Sarmiento (First District) and Edwin Ong (Second District) will conduct similar investigations. ROY NARRA
